Deutsch 102 Stunde 33
Outline plan:
- Informal activity before class begins: Play hangman with the Kapitel 10 vocab.
- Write 4 sentences in the Narrative past about Aschenputtel with books closed
- Freie Kommunikation: Aktivität 10, p. 387.
- Use Conversational Past, since this is a conversation, but e.g. “hatte” and “war” and also “konnte,” “wollte,” “sollte,” “durfte,” and “musste” when these come up.
- Alternative topic ideas:
- Die zwei Stiefschwestern erzählen dem bösen Wolf die Geschichte von ihrer Perspektive. Der Wolf stellt viele Fragen (z.B. Warum hast du sie nicht gegessen?)
- Aschenputtel und der Prinz erzählen ihrem Kind, wie sie sich kennengelernt haben (für drei Personen; das Kind soll viele Fragen stellen).
- Aschenputtel spricht (vor dem Ball) mit Schneewittchen über ihre Probleme (much of this would be in the Present tense).
- EITHER:
- “Narrative past quiz”
- Each student writes three sentences in the narrative past about a famous person. Instructor collects the pieces of paper and reads them in turn to the class as a whole, which has to guess who is being described.
- See overhead with examples
- OR:
- “Wiedersehen” overhead
- Read the poem
- Figure out the infinitives of the verbs
- Note the 2nd line is a preview of Plusquamperfekt (Past Perfect). It means “They hadn’t seen each other for a long time.”
- Compete with a partner to memorize and then recite as much as you can of the poem
- The poem gives you a model of the two basic narrative past forms [i.e. strong and weak verbs], and war.
- Video: “Rhabarberbarbara”
- Watch the video
- Identify the narrative past verb forms in the text of the video, which is included on the webpage
- There are links to two versions of the video. The 2nd is spoken more clearly; the 1st is the original.
- Work with the vocab worksheet that’s due today:
- Section D
- Discuss the Aschenputtel question from the worksheet
- Lieblingswörter and “Was passt nicht” questions
- Preview the next Känguru reading
- In the Reading Notes for tonight, read the notes on the first chapter (“Zensur”).
- Read the first few lines of dialogue on p. 70 aloud with a partner
- Instructor clarifies what’s going on here:
- Das Känguru weiß, dass der Erzähler im Radio über das Känguru spricht. Findet es das gut? Was bedeutet “Lügen”?
- Der Erzähler sagt im Radio, dass das Känguru sehr viele ____________ isst. Und er sagt, dass das Känguru viele Aschenbecher stiehlt.
- Was bedeutet “Aschenbecher”? Und “stehlen”?
- Sagt das Känguru, dass das stimmt?
- Aber was ist neben der Schlafstelle des Kängurus? Und was ist im Schrank?
- Also: es stimmt: das Känguru frisst viele Schnapspralinen und es stiehlt viele Aschenbecher.
- Instructor clarifies what’s going on here:
- Now read the rest of the “Zensur” chapter
- What was the word “versu” supposed to be at the end?
- Why does the story end in the middle of the word?
- Time permitting, tell your partner whether you waste viel, wenig or keine Zeit im Internet.
- Zeit verschwenden = to waste time
- Was tun Sie im Internet, was nicht produktiv ist? Wie viel Zeit verbringen Sie damit?
- This is a preview of the “Pandora” chapter
