Please remember that late homework will receive a “check minus,” and homework that is more than two class days late may not be accepted (unless, of course, you have a good excuse for handing it in late). To understand this homework schedule, imagine your instructor saying “This is what you have to do for the NEXT class.“==> What is listed here today is due TOMORROW (January 10). Work through the numbered items one by one. The red **SUBMIT** indicates something you need to HAND IN on paper (if it’s a worksheet) or electronically (online exercises, blog posts and iLrn). For iLrn, it’s best to complete the activities when they show up on this schedule (and to READ the additional details about them in this schedule!), but iLrn only HAS TO be completed when you see the **SUBMIT** next to it. 0a. Kaufen Sie die Bücher, die Sie noch nicht haben [=which you don’t already have] [assuming you still have Vorsprung(V) and that your iLrn access to the accompanying online materials is still valid from German 101, this will just mean buying Die Känguru-Chroniken. 2a. Follow the instructions you received via Canvas Announcements to register for your section of the iLrn course for German 102. If you no longer have the email, find it via the “Announcements” tab on Canvas! 2b. Click here to review the multiple ways in which the iLrn assignments are flexible (and note that the “Anlauftext lesen” iLrn assignments are NOT flexible.We want you to complete these on the indicated due date, and to attempt all the questions!!). 2c. **SUBMIT**Anlauftext lesen (Please be sure to do this now as preparation for the next class!): Do iLrn T:7-2, T:7-3, and T:7-6 as follows: First, look at the vocabulary hints in the bullet point below. Then do T:7-2 (Satzdetektiv); then open your book to p. 246 and click on T:7-3. Click the “Play” icon and listen to the text while reading along. Do this twice, then answer the questions. Finally, do T:7-6.
3. Go to iLrn, click on the “Assignment Calendar” tab, choose “Kapitel 7” from the “Section” pulldown menu, and do: S:7-1B. 4. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED: To review the video lectures from German 101, click on the “Index of Video Lectures.” To review the vocabulary from German 101, use the mobile flashcard app (see link at the top of the “Index of Video Lectures”). The “Index of Video Lectures” also includes links to the vocabulary handouts, and to the grammar and vocabulary worksheets and online quizzes for each chapter. We recommend spending 15 minutes a day to review one chapter each day, and continuing this until you’ve reviewed all chapters sufficiently. When using the flashcard program or the vocabulary handouts, try to quickly say a simple sentence with each word you are reviewing before moving on to the next one. |

Topic (“Thema”) and instructions on Canvas! 2. iLrn:S:11-1D, S:11-1E, S:11-1F, S:11-1J (For this one, “PR” means the “normal” Indicative Present Tense (Ich esse eine Banane); “NP” means the “normal” Indicative Narrative Past tense (Ich aß eine Banane); “SII” is for verb forms that are unambiguously one-word forms of Subjunctive II (Ich äße eine Banane); “NP/SII” is for verb forms that could be one-word forms of Subjunctive II or just “normal” Indicative Narrative Past tense forms, depending on the context (sagte, machte, lachte etc.). In practice, these are the forms where one would be most likely to use “würde + infinitive” to make it clear one means Subjunctive II (of course the “würde + infinitive” form is also common even for many of the unambiguous one-word forms: “ich würde essen” instead of “ich äße” etc. The goal of this exercise is just to make you more conscious of the possible one-word forms so you’ll recognize them when you see them.))
